Helen is a solicitor who has specialised in advising corporates and trustees on all aspects of pensions law and practice, since the early 1990s. Helen has spent more than twenty years as a partner in international legal practices, including DLA Piper and Squire Patton Boggs. Helen is currently a partner at Gunnercooke llp, the leading senior-lawyer challenger law firm.
Helen has been recognised by the leading legal directories (Chambers’ Guide and the Legal 500) since 2002, and as a Thomson Reuters “Stand out Lawyer”. She has been shortlisted in the Professional Pensions Women in Pensions Awards three times.
Helen is in her second term as Chair of the NHS Pensions Board, the statutory body responsible for reporting to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on the administration of the NHS Pension Scheme. She is also the independent member of the NHS Pension Scheme’s McCloud Programme Board, which deals with implementation of the remedy process for the historic age discrimination issues arising from changes to public sector pension provision in 2015.
Helen is Co-Vice Chair of Governors and Chair of the Audit Committee at Birmingham Metropolitan College, a further education college operating in central and north Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. She is also a Governor and Trustee of the Royal National College for the Blind.
